EDMONTON – A number of aircraft were destroyed in a fire that ripped through a storage hangar at the Wetaskiwin airport early Monday morning.

When the fire department and RCMP members arrived on scene, the hangar was engulfed in flames.

Officials say the structure was destroyed by the fire.

A number of aircraft – as well as some equipment – were inside at the time of the blaze.

Nobody was hurt in the fire.

Fire crews were able to get control of the fire and eventually extinguish it, preventing further damage to the surrounding structures.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The Provincial Fire Investigator and the RCMP continue to investigate.
