MONTREAL — Firefighters were battling an intense fire Wednesday afternoon at a RONA store in Sorel-Tracy, northeast of Montreal.
Flames were spotted around 3 p.m. outside the RONA Bibeau, located just off Highway 30 on Saint-Louis Boulevard. The fire apparently quickly spread to the warehouse, where there was a large amount of building material.
Firefighters sounded a general alarm and called local districts for support. At the height of the fire, there were about 30 firefighters at the scene.
According to a spokesperson for the fire department, one firefighter was injured when a structure collapsed. He was transported to hospital. The extent of his injuries has not been confirmed.
Although the fire is reportedly under control, there were concerns that it threatened to spread to the residential area and gas station nearby.
An investigation is underway in order to determine what started the fire.
