B.C. teens speak out against bullying in YouTube video

A YouTube video that speaks out against bullying and honours a 14-year old New York boy is going viral.

Students in British Columbia made the video “Paws Up Forever Project” after Buffalo teen Jamey Rodemeyer committed suicide.

Jamey’s parents said the boy had endured “constant taunting from the same people over and over.” He posted an online video last May, and spoke of the bullying he endured because of his sexuality. He tried to encourage other teens to remain hopeful through difficult experiences. The video “It Gets Better” garnered attention worldwide.

B.C. teens, Jason Bring, Sara Nazeman, and Ines Andersen-Mitchell, want to keep Jamey’s memory alive and put a stop to bullying once and for all. They compiled messages from 150 teens around the world, all sharing their thoughts on bullying and suicide, and urging governments to enact anti-bullying legislation. Their message spread over Twitter, using the hashtag #pawsupforeverproject, and they hope to gain momentum by catching the attention of anti-bullying activist, and Jamey’s hero, Lady Gaga.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton heard about the project, calling it “an incredible, truly powerful video.”

A clip in the video explains, “This project is dedicated to Jamey Rodemeyer and the fight to stop bullying/suicide all over the world. 150 monsters all over the world, one message. Make A Law For Jamey.”
