WINNIPEG-The warm weather is making it hard to have a taste for fall but pumpkin-flavoured products are more popular than ever.
“Well, it’s in everything isn’t it?” said Jerome Posthumus, with The Bake Oven, a North Kildonan bakery. “We’ve been experiencing growing sales in our pumpkin pies and cheesecake for the last four or five years.”
It’s not just the traditional pie people are devouring.
Pumpkin-flavoured coffees, teas and even beer are on menus and store shelves across the city.
“Pumpkin is hot right now,” said Lisa Dyck, owner of Cornell Creme, “Everyone is pumpkin crazy.”
Cornell Creme just launched Pumpkin Patch, a pumpkin-flavoured ice cream.
But all the hype has left a bad taste in some people’s mouths.
“It’s excessive now,” said Ryan Taylor, a university student who says too many people are ordering pumpkin spice lattes. “Enough guys.”

Afton Glover says pumpkin pie is tradition this time of year, but she feels bombarded by other pumpkin products.
“I get it,” said Glover. “it is fall there are pumpkins now, big deal.”
Don’t tell that to Melody Schwabe.
“We grow about 25 different types,” said Schwabe, who runs Schwabe Pumpkins just north of Winnipeg.
If you are looking to pick the perfect pumpkin ahead of Thanksgiving and Halloween, Schwabe says to look for ones with no soft spots or gouges.
She also says don’t be afraid to pick one that is a little green. They will ripen just like a banana.
