KELOWNA — The Okanagan Sun football club is in mourning after the sudden passing of one of their own. The club announced Thursday linebacker JT Fernandez, 21, passed away.

“This is a tragic day for our organization,” says President Paul Carson.  “JT was a wonderful person and a standout on the football field.  Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.”

Details about how Fernandez died are not being released.

He’s being touted as one of the best linbackers in franchise history with 47 solo tackles, three sacks, two fumbles, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and blocked two kicks. Sun players will honour Fernandez at their next game Saturday at the Apple Bowl, wearing a special sticker on their helmets in his memory.
