WINNIPEG – The bones found by a volunteer searcher on the banks of the Red River Tuesday are not human, police say.
Officers confirmed Thursday that the remains are from an animal, likely a cow.

A group of volunteers began dragging the river and searching the river bank in the downtown area Wednesday in hopes of turning up evidence of the fate of missing aboriginal women.
The search continues Thursday. Winnipeg police will have their river patrol boat on the water again, for safety reasons.
