Some areas on the peninsula are under a tropical storm warning or watch, including Cabo where several Canadians were forced to evacuate after Hurricane Odile struck on Sunday.
Though Polo is expected to continue moving northwestward – away from making direct landfall – the National Hurricane Center is warning that any deviation from that track that takes it slightly north would result in stronger winds along the coast of the peninsula.
Polo is expected to weaken within the next 24 hours.
