A third person has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2008 killing of a Mission couple.

Bruce Main, 64, made his first appearance in B.C. Provincial Court in Abbotsford Monday. Previously charged are Justin Andrew MacKinnon, 25, and Jack Douglas Woodruff, 52.

Police announced charges against Woodruff in May and MacKinnon was arrested in June in Nova Scotia.

On Sept. 22, 2008, a neighbour discovered Lisa Cheryl Dudley, 37, and her boyfriend, Guthrie Jolan McKay, 33, in their Mission home in the 31000-block Greenwood Drive.

McKay was dead and Dudley was barely alive and died before she could be taken to hospital. Four days earlier, their neighbour had called Mission RCMP after he heard gunshots.

The RCMP has been criticized for its response to the report of shots fired. An officer had been sent to the Mission subdivision and spent 13 minutes in the area but did not get out of his car or speak to the neighbour who called 911.

After an investigation, the officer, Const. Mike White, was disciplined and docked a day’s pay. The RCMP later made it mandatory for its members to talk to whoever called 911 when it’s believed shots have been fired.

Main is scheduled to appear in court next on Thursday. Court appearances for MacKinnon and Woodruff are scheduled for February.
