UPDATE: Kelowna mobile home fire deemed suspicious

UPDATE 2:30 p.m. — RCMP say the early morning fire is considered suspicious. Police and fire officials are on scene investigating the site.

KELOWNA — A Kelowna resident and his cat are safe but their home has been destroyed by fire.

Kelowna firefighters responded to a structure fire at Okanagan Villa Mobile Home Park on Findlay Road in Rutland shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The mobile home was fully engulfed by flames when crews arrived. The damage is extensive.

Officials say the lone occupant was awaken by the sound of a smoke alarm and managed to get out safely along with his cat.

An investigator is at the scene trying to determine the cause.
