WATCH: Witness at Kelowna trial relives the day he was shot at several times

KELOWNA – At an attempted murder trial Tuesday in Kelowna, an Armstrong man recounted the day he was shot at numerous times by a man fleeing police.

“It’s chilling to think what could have happened, I could have orphaned both my kids that day,” says Mike Scott.

He was working on Westside Road in July 2012 when a van blew through his flagger controlled work site.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

As Scott followed to try to get the license plate, he was fired upon three separate times.

“The second time, they pulled over at a pull-out. The passenger jumped out, took a shooting stance beside the vehicle, and fired a few shots back at me again. By that point I was stopped and was reversing away.”

Scott’s vehicle was hit but luckily he wasn’t.

“It’s extremely surreal. I still can hardly believe it happened. The length of the chase, the number of shots and nobody was killed, it’s absolutely amazing.”

Scott eventually lost sight of the van and the chase ended when police deployed a spike belt.

Michael Edward Ellis, 41, is charged with 22 offenses including five counts of attempted murder.
