Medical software developed in Okanagan could benefit patient care

If your doctor uses a computer or iPad to take notes, update your files and print prescriptions, there is a good chance that he or she is using software that was developed in the Okanagan.

Hundreds of doctors from across the country are in Kelowna to learn how to use software designed to improve efficiency and patient care.

QHR Technologies is a leading developer of Electronic Medical Records.

Doctors can use the software for billing, get lab results, update patient files and track prescriptions.

“The doctors who use it say their work goes faster and it improves the quality of care,” said company CEO Al Hildebrandt.

One of the biggest benefits of keeping information on a computer, rather than on paper, is that it makes it easier for other doctors or specialists to read a patient’s files.

“They don’t have to go flipping through pages and pages of my illegible notes,” said Dr. Anne Doig of Saskatoon. “They can read the data on a screen.”

QHR Technologies says thousands of Canadian doctors use its software.

The Kelowna-based company employs about 180 people.
