One person dead, two rescued from Toronto house collapse

TORONTO- One person is dead after a house under renovation collapsed, burying three people beneath.

Toronto Fire Services division commander Bob O’Halloran told Global News the man was found under a beam and was declared dead by paramedics, but added it could take hours to remove his body.

O’Halloran said another man was also trapped by a beam but it was lifted off of him and he was safely removed.

Paramedics say he was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Toronto fire says the roof of the home, on Brookdale Avenue, near Lawrence Avenue & Avenue Road, collapsed into the basement at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Labour says two other workers were also on site but outside the home and suffered “very minor injuries.”
