WATCH: New Westminster residents fight back against plans to renovate old stadium

Some New Westminster residents are fighting back against plans to transform Queen’s Park Stadium into a soccer-only facility.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are hoping to bring a farm team to the Royal City in time for the 2015 season while increasing the stadium’s capacity to 3,500 spectators.

The renovation would also include a new scoreboard, improved lighting and a new playing surface.

But opponents say they’re worried about the impact a larger venue could have on their neighbourhood and the loss of space for local baseball teams.

A final decision is expected to be made next Monday at New Westminster city council.
