Sarah Thomson drops out of Toronto mayoral race

TORONTO – Sarah Thomson has given up her quest to become the mayor of Toronto and is instead looking to run for a city council seat.

The former two-time mayoral candidate made the announcement at city hall on Tuesday morning where she filed her registration papers to run in Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina.

Thomson also ran in the 2010 election but dropped out early to support George Smitherman.

However, this time she did not publicly support either John Tory or Olivia Chow but said she’s “against Rob Ford.”

She told reporters that either Tory or Chow should drop out of the race if it means the other would beat Ford.

Thomson ran in the 2011 provincial election as the Liberal candidate for the Trinity-Spadina riding. NDP candidate Rosario Marchese won by 1,075 votes.
