Two men confront Benoit, who leaves. Benoit’s footage shows one of the two men, William Byers, appear to kick his camera while they area outside of the office..

Benoit’s footage cuts off at that point after the alleged kick but the security camera catches part of an ensuing scuffle between the two:  the two grab each other and slam into the office window before falling to the ground. When they get up, Byers can be seen trying to punch Benoit.

The entire altercation lasts approximately 20 seconds.

“I thought that I would be asked to leave but I did not think that I would get shoved, kicked and punched and basically assaulted for doing my Citizen Journalism,” wrote Benoit in his YouTube video description.

Byers was later taken into police custody and charged with assault, mischief and theft.

Both Councillor Ford and the mayor are defending the campaign volunteer, saying he “did the right thing.”
