REGINA – A Regina business owner wants to make sure there’s no uncertainty about the shop’s name and what kind of service it provides.
“At first, I couldn’t believe someone would refer to a beauty salon and spa as an ISIS terrorist group,” said Lori Pawson, who operates Isis Salon & Day Spa.
The salon is named ‘Isis’ after the Egyptian goddess, but ‘ISIS’ is the acronym for a jihadist group that’s been making headlines with violent actions in the Middle East.
Isis Salon began receiving phone calls and social media inquiries asking if the business had any affiliation.
Pawson said she even considered changing the name of the business at one point, but now she’s trying to get the word out that there is no connection to the terrorist group.
“(Isis) is a goddess of all goddesses, the caregiver of all. That’s why we chose our name,” Pawson said. “That’s what we stand for. We give everyone that comes in here the care they deserve.”
The salon shares the name ‘Isis’ with many other retailers around the world that have heard backlash, as well as a metal band with the same moniker.
