CN freight train derails northwest of Edmonton

EDMONTON – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating after a CN freight train derailed northwest of Edmonton Sunday.

Lindsay Fedchyshyn, a communications officer with CN, says 15 grain cars came off the tracks near Hondo, Alberta.

She says the train was heading south toward Edmonton at the time. None of the cars contained dangerous goods and no one was injured, Fedchyshyn added.

Crews are working to repair the damage but there’s no word on when the line will be running again.

Hondo is located about 196 kilometres north of Edmonton.
