I spy with Eyesitter

A Kelowna company is about to launch its internet-based security system across Canada after gathering more than 4,000 clients in the U.S.

Eyesitter uses motion sensor cameras to record activity wherever the client needs to keep track of movement.

The client is alerted to motion via a text message to his or her smart phone, which can also be used to watch the live video.

“We’ve caught armed robbery. We’ve been involved in murder cases. We’ve been involved in bombings,” said John Hoffe, Eyesitter general manager.

The video is kept on a computer server for 21 days, assisting clients who may need to access the images during an investigation.

“You have scenarios with divorces, etc.,” says Hoffe. “We’ve been involved in a lot of things, with the FBI, we’ve been involved in the Secret Service.”

Most of the company’s clients are within the bar and restaurant industry, which require employee and patron monitoring.

The service cost begins at $15 a month for one camera.

Eyesitter will launch its Canadian distribution with cell phone providers at the end of October.
