LONGUEUIL – A fire forced an early morning evacuation of the Saint-Malo senior residence on the south shore.

Firefighters and police officers worked together to help residents out of the building; some had to be carried out.

The seniors were wrapped up in blankets and given chairs to sit on as their neighbours were evacuated.

At least one person was treated in an ambulance.

The Saint-Malo residence is located just south of the Saint-Lawrence River in Longueuil.

It is a home for autonomous and semi-autonomous seniors.
