Ogden residents alarmed after another string of suspicious fires

CALGARY – The fire department is investigating another string of suspicious fires in the community of Ogden.

At least four fires were lit along the 7600 block of Ogden Road on Wednesday morning, all within 30 minutes of each other.

One of the fires was in a dumpster, while the other three were rubbish fires in the alleyways – one of which spread to a nearby car.

“All of us mostly have kids, so it’s kind of scary,” says Pearl Cayanan, who lives nearby. She woke up to the sound of her neighbouring banging on her window around 4 a.m.

“I saw the dumpster burning really bad,” she remembers. “If that person didn’t wake up…we could all be burning.”

Investigators believe all four fires were deliberately set.

Just a few weeks ago, fire crews were called to the same area for a set of suspicious fires.
