VANCOUVER — A man has been arrested under the Mental Health Act, after brandishing a butcher knife at Brentwood Town Centre in Burnaby.

According to the authorities, he had been in the mall for three to four minutes, when he was located with the knife, just before 1:00 p.m.  Security guards chased him out of the shopping centre and he was found by police, running down Willingdon Avenue.

The suspect refused to drop the weapon and challenged the police to shoot him. They requested a negotiator.

Eventually, the man lunged toward an officer with the knife, and they tasered him. He was arrested and is receiving treatment at a hospital.

No one was injured in the incident.
