TORONTO – Two kayakers decided to go for a rip down a drainage ditch — and the footage is pretty intense.
Ben Marr and Rush Sturges strapped on a few GoPro cameras to record the “sketchy” ride down the ditch while reaching speeds of up to 72 kilometres an hour.
The footage shows the “dudes” zigzagging in and out of the narrow waterway, losing control at times before being spit out into the Pacific.
Keeping with GoPro’s marketing strategy of using user-generated content, the company included the footage in one of its ads that has gone viral.
According to a recent article in the New York Daily News, 6,000 videos are shot on GoPro cameras and uploaded to YouTube every day, as videographers hope to become the next viral advertisement.
“It was really cool to be part of a production. It was a dream of mine to be part of a GoPro launch video,” YouTube star Alex Chacon, who was featured in a GoPro video riding his motorcycle on the world’s highest road, told the Daily News. “It was so awesome.”
The Daily News also points out the number of videos increased 60 per cent in 2013 compared with the previous year.
Moreover, according to the Wall St. Daily, in 2013 GoPro only spent $157,000on sales and marketing while generating almost $1B in revenue.
