SaskEnergy rate increase approved

The Saskatchewan Government confirms SaskEnergy’s delivery rate will increase starting next month. File / Global News

REGINA – The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel (SRRP) has approved SaskEnergy’s rate increase for the delivery of natural gas.

Residential customers will see an increase ranging from 2 to 3.7 per cent on their bills.

The increase came from the Crown Corporation’s multi-year application, which the panel recommended be approved.

SRRP says the cabinet approved both the 2013 and 2014 rate increases then directed SaskEnergy to provide a financial update.

After a review, an independent assessment and public input, the panel says the increase is still reasonable.

SaskEnergy is currently forecasting a $2.9 million shortfall for 2014-15. The panel suggests it consider monitoring overtime and vacation payouts to alleviate future rate increases.

The rate increase starts Sept. 1, 2014.
