SGI workers ratify new contract

SGI members of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees (COPE) Union local 397 have ratified a new contract with SGI. 

Under the terms of the new contract, employees will receive a general wage increase of 7.5 per cent over four years (1 per cent, 3 per cent, 1.5 per cent and 2 per cent), retroactive to January 1, 2010.

The employer-paid pension will also increase to 5.75 per cent on January 1, 2012. 

There is also a guarantee in the contract that no permanent employee will be laid off for the duration of the contact. 

SGI workers have been without a contract since December 31, 2009. The new deal expires on December 31, 2013.
