Cadborosaurus footage sparks Discovery Channel 2011 special (video)

As elusive as the Loch Ness monster and Ogopogo, although perhaps not as famous, the Cadborosaurus is believed to be a sea serpent living in the waters off British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.

The Cadborosaurus, or Caddy for short, was believed to be spotted in the Fraser River last year, and has been “seen” from Alaska to California, but it continues to be a creature of mystery. John Kirk spoke to Tanya Beja about what he saw that day in the Fraser River and said “it was a massive shock to the system.”

Scientists Paul LeBlond and Ed Bousfield are Caddy’s spokesmen, but there are still many non-believers out there.

However, a recent Discovery Channel special, called Alaskan Monster Hunt: Sea Monster Witness, has sparked new interest in the Cadborosaurus. In the video, a fisherman named Kelly Nash shows a video to the Hillstrand brothers that he shot last year of what he believes is some kind of sea serpent.

In the rather grainy video, Nash says a head pops up out of the water as the creature is swimming, and later it appears to blow something out of its head or neck. Kirk said this lends itself to the fact that it is not a seal for example, as seals do not exhibit this practice.

According to the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club the “only genuine photographs” of the Cadborosaurus were taken in 1937 at the Naden Harbour whaling station in the Queen Charlotte Islands. The flensers had discovered a strange creature inside the stomach of a recently harvested whale.

Take a look at a shortened version of the video and tell us what you think – could it be a sea monster from the deep?
