Alberta man dies in drowning

EDMONTON – A 23-year-old man is dead after drowning in the McLeod River near Edson, Alberta Sunday night.

Police say Stephen Dicks was swimming in the river at around 6 p.m. when he began to show signs of distress. Family members rushed in to the water but were unable to save him.

During the attempt to save Dicks, a second person had to be rescued from the river.

Dicks was seen going under water but didn’t resurface.

He was later found under water by RCMP.

The RCMP and Edmonton’s Medical Examiner are investigating to determine what led up to Dicks’ drowning.
