Sask. Government going ahead with P3 school model

Nine new Saskatchewan schools will be built using a public private partnership after all.

A few weeks ago, the Alberta government cancelled its P3 school project, saying it would save them $14 million dollars long-term.

That prompted the Opposition NDP to question the SaskParty’s plan to build nine new P3 schools by 2017.

In response, Premier Brad Wall said he would “sound the market” to make sure going with a P3 model was the best decision.

After consultations with outside experts, the province says today the project will go ahead.

They’ll be putting out project descriptions for potential bidders.

Regina is getting three schools out of the deal. Saskatoon will get four, and one school will be built in Martensville and another in Warman.

The cost of the projects won’t be known until a builder is chosen.
