UPDATE: Central Okanagan Search and Rescue says the man has been located is being escorted to the base of the mountain.

BIG WHITE — A search is underway in the Big White area for a missing Joe Rich resident.

The 39 year old man was dropped off Tuesday by a friend at the Gem Lake parking lot.

Search and Rescue officials fall short of saying the man was despondent but say he ‘was having a bad day and wanted to clear his head’.

An aerial search of the area failed to find any signs of the man whose name has not been released.

Officials say the man is travelling with his dog – a shitszu.

They say the man is an experienced woodsman and he is familiar with the Big White area.

A team of ATV riders is heading up the mountain. They’re also searching the 201 Forestry Road.

The Big White fire department has also joined the search.
