Montrealers plunge into the St. Lawrence

MONTREAL – Nearly 200 people took a chilly plunge into the St. Lawrence River Tuesday morning.

It was part of an annual event in the Old Port, organized by Montreal Baignade,  to promote better access to the river.

Organizers hope to prove the water in the St. Lawrence is clean enough for swimming.

“It’s a gathering of citizens who want to remind everyone on the Island of Montreal that the quality of the water is getting better and better,” said Pierre Lussier, member of Comité Citoyen Montreal Baignade.
