Police probe copper wire theft from business, light poles, construction site

HALIFAX – RCMP are investigating the recent theft of copper wire from three sites in Nova Scotia.

Police say wire was stolen Monday from conduits that run between light poles near Old Guysborough Road in Goffs.

Three rolls of wire were swiped Wednesday evening from a locked storage container belonging to a business on Highway 2 in Wellington.

The cost of the wire is estimated to be about $9,000.

RCMP say two suspects have been arrested in the third case, which happened Wednesday night at a house under construction in Lower Sackville.

Officers were called to a break and enter in progress and found a pickup truck containing copper wire parked in the home’s driveway.

Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested without incident in the woods behind the home.

They are due in court on Oct. 5 on multiple charges, including theft, mischief and possession of stolen property.

Police say they don’t believe the first two thefts are connected to the third case.
