After a flurry of controversy surrounding the management of the Regina Optimist Dolphin Swim Club, one of the parents who voiced concerns earlier this year, is now offering an alternative.
“We just felt that it was time to have a new swim club in this city that just brought something a little bit different,” said CJ Katz, President of the Regina Tritons Swim Club.
The Regina Tritons Swim Club is currently home to about a dozen swimmers. The club has brought in a high-level coach from the United States who has Saskatchewan roots. The club hopes that will be a draw for future recruits.
Plans for the new club have been in the works since last December. The president says their focus is to have an ethical mandate.
“At the end of the day, you do have kids that stop swimming, and they go out in life and have to function as members of society who are successful, who operate with dignity and respect. And to us, that was really important,” said Katz.
Triton swimmers will practice at the Lawson Aquatic Centre.
