UPDATE AT 6:38 P.M. MT: Organizers have called off the search, saying they received a lot of negative backlash and feedback on social media about their efforts.
CALGARY- Volunteers continue to head out in full force, in hopes of helping to bring closure to the disappearance of a missing Calgary family.
For the second night in a row, groups headed out into a rural area near Airdrie to try and search for clues that could help solve the murders of five-year-old Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents, Alvin and Kathryn Liknes.
While police initially had reservations, the search is going ahead as planned.
“CPS’ big concern to my knowledge was that they were worried that the site would be contaminated and the investigation would be compromised,” explains organizer Mark Condon. “We’ve assured them that that situation would never happen and we have discussed that with our searchers.
“We are simply out there trying to point out areas of interest and then referring those areas of interest or items of interest to CPS.”

Searchers have been instructed not to touch any potential evidence, and call police immediately if they notice something. They are also not allowed to bring recording devices such as cameras or phones.
