RCMP investigate fatal collision on Highway 22 south of Entwistle

EDMONTON – One person was killed Friday night in a collision on Highway 22 west of Edmonton.

Evansburg RCMP were called to the collision on Highway 22, south of Entwistle, around 9 p.m.

Officers say a grain truck collided with a tanker truck carrying crude oil at an intersection crossing Highway 22, south of Entwistle.

The crash caused a fire, which engulfed both vehicles in flames, RCMP said.

RCMP say one of the drivers died in the crash, although it’s not known which vehicle the person was in at the time. The other driver was taken to hospital by ground ambulance with critical injuries.

A picture sent in to Global News shows flames and heavy, black smoke coming from the collision scene Friday night.

Highway 22 between Township Roads 524 and 530 was closed to traffic Friday night as officers continue the investigation. It remained closed Saturday morning.
