The B.C. Forest Service placed its first campfire ban of the season on Friday for the Lillooet and Merritt fire zones.

The Merritt fire zone includes Princeton, Tulameen and most communities along the Summerland-Princeton Road.

The Forest Service says the fire danger rating in those areas is extreme and no open burning of any kind is allowed until further notice.
