CALGARY – An Airdrie family has learned lightning really does strike twice.

“The clouds were getting really dark and there was just a massive boom and it sounded like every door in the house slammed at the same time.”

For the second time, Beverley Havens home just east of Airdrie is hit by a lightning.

There was no significant structural damage to the home but the electrical system went haywire.

“All the alarms in the house went off just screaming. [My son in law] went down in the utilities room and you could smell plastic burning.”

The family is now waiting for an electrician to determine the damages.

The same storm also brought air traffic in and out of Calgary to a standstill.

A power bump cut off power at the Calgary International Airport triggering the emergency system.

Arriving flights circled for nearly an hour waiting for the all clear to land.

No major damages were reported within city limits.
