The Vancouver Fire Department discovered what appears to be a meth lab when they were called to a laneway home fire early Wednesday morning.
Crews were called at about 3:30 a.m. to 1650 East 49 Avenue and as it was an active fire on a busy street, the Vancouver Police were called for traffic control.
When the fire was extinguished, the fire department told police about the suspected drug lab.
The area was taped off and the Drug Squad were called.
Vancouver Police say the landlord was also notified about the person renting the home. No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation.
Police say the home does not pose a risk to the neighbourhood, but BC Hydro has disconnected power to the home.
It will remain behind police tape until drug investigators attend and any environmental clean-up can be completed.
