Former Surrey mayor to run for mayor again

WATCH: Former Surrey mayor Doug McCallum has officially entered the Surrey mayoral race and things are expected to get interesting. Jas Johal reports.

Former Surrey mayor Doug McCallum announced today that he will run for office in this fall’s municipal elections.

McCallum has been in the public eye more and more often in recent months, criticizing a number of current mayor Dianne Watt’s decisions.

He lost to her in 2005, after serving as mayor for nine years.

He has already said he is concerned about public safety, transit, and fiscal responsibility in the city.

There are two other high profile declared candidates in the Surrey mayoral race – current councillor Barinder Rasode and watt’s handpicked successor councillor Linda Hepner.
