CALGARY – The city’s Coordinated Safety Response Team will demolish seven derelict homes this week as a part of a new city initiative to clean-up neighborhoods.

The city is now able to order owners to remediate or demolish neglected properties. If the owner does not comply, the city will demolish the property at the owner’s expense.

Derelict properties left unattended can attract criminal activity or pose fire risks.

CSRT works with Calgary Police, Alberta Health Services, the Fire Department and other government agencies to identify and deal with problem properties.

This week, three homes in Scarborough, three on Centre Street North and one in Aspen Woods will be demolished.

Calgarians who have information about an unsafe or derelict home in their community can contact CSRT at csrt@calgary.ca or visit Calgary.ca/csrt.
