Laurie Blakeman was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1997. Since that time, she’s served a number of roles, including Official Opposition House Leader, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Resources and Environment, and Member of the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund Committee. She also served as Executive Director of the Alberta Advisory Council on Women’s Issues. Blakeman earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Alberta, and a Certificate in Public Administration from University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension. She has been a resident of the Rossdale community in Edmonton-Centre since 1986 along with her husband Ben Henderson, who serves as an Edmonton City Councillor.
