EDMONTON – A three-year-old Alberta girl will be spending much of her summer enjoying the great outdoors, after her wish was granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Aiva, who was diagnosed with leukemia in May 2013, loves being outside.

“She likes to be outside and get dirty,” explained Aiva’s mother, Tara Born. “She pretty much never walked. I’d say she more just started running when she could get on her feet. She’s really busy and she’s always been like that.”

Aiva wanted nothing more than to go camping with her family, but because of her compromised immune system, she couldn’t camp in a tent.

“When she was asked: if you can go anywhere, be anyone, meet anyone, or have anything, what would you have? … she said, ‘A trailer!'” explained Katie Willis, communications coordinator with Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta.

After a short scavenger hunt through Edmonton’s Rainbow Valley Campground Thursday afternoon, Aiva and her parents were presented with a brand new tent trailer.

“She really likes the beach and the outdoors and that,” said Aiva’s father, Dave Weremczuk. “It’s kind of the gift that keeps on giving. We can use it many times throughout the year and we’ll always remember this day and we’ll always have that with us.”

The three-year-old was also given her very own camping chair, personalized with her name.
