TORONTO – The World Cup in space?

Not exactly, but astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) marked the start to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil by wishing everyone good luck – with some kicks that might make Ronaldo jealous.

Steve Swanson, Alexander Gerst and Reid Wiseman sent their best wishes to all the teams.

“We want to wish all the teams and fans on the ground and in Brazil a great World Cup and have fun and have peaceful games. May the best win, and viel Glück,” said German astronaut Gerst while wearing his country’s jersey.

Swanson then performed a kick of the ball over his head. But, being in low gravity, it appeared easier than having to deal with pesky Earth gravity.

The trio later played the beautiful game while floating through the station.
