Calgary dog groomer fined in animal abuse case

CALGARY – A former dog groomer at the centre of an animal abuse investigation has been handed a hefty fine.

Mariko Dormer was fired from her job at Fur Kids Daycare after a coworker secretly recorded video on her cellphone that showed Dormer assaulting an animal.

The Calgary Humane Society was called to investigate and charged Dormer with causing an animal to be in distress and causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal.

On Tuesday, Dormer was fined $4,000 and banned from working with pets for ten years.

She faced a maximum fine of $20,000.
