CHURCHILL, Man. – The company that operates the port of Churchill in northern Manitoba says its Hudson Bay Railway line has reopened.

Merv Tweed, president of Omnitrax Canada, said full freight service is expected to resume soon.

The rail line was shut down a week ago when 13 cars of a 50-car freight train carrying grain derailed south of Churchill.

Due to inclement weather conditions, re-railing efforts were delayed last week.

Tweed said he thanks his customers for their patience during the rail service suspension and apologized for the inconvenience.

Omnitrax works hard to provide northern communities with access to goods and services as well as being a link between communities, he said.
