They promised it was coming, and Friday was the big day!  One lucky Calgarian became the first person to snag money in a social experiment for good that’s been sweeping across North America.

The idea behind the hidden cash grab is simple: people follow the twitter account (in Calgary, it’s @HiddenCashYYC) and hints are sent out to find hidden money somewhere in the city.

The creator hopes that the person who finds the money will pay it forward.

It all started in San Francisco, spread to the UK and now it’s been popping up in Canada as well – cash has already been found in Vancouver and Toronto.

This week the twitter account @HiddenCashYYC was created, promising to hide money if the account gained 5,000 followers.

Despite not quite hitting that target (as of Saturday morning the account had just over 4,000 followers), clues were sent out yesterday and @sarathebraddy found $20 hidden in Quarry Park.

Hidden Cash YYC is promising to do another drop this weekend.
