Canadian woman slain in suburb of Mexican retiree and artist community San Miguel de Allende

MEXICO CITY – A Mexican state official says a Canadian woman was stabbed to death in a suburb of San Miguel de Allende, a colonial city filled with foreign artists and retirees.

Guanajuato Deputy Prosecutor Miguel Angel Rangel-Zendejas says 64-year-old Judith Zena Baylis was stabbed 21 times in her home in Atotonilco.

Rangel-Zendejas says a domestic worker reported finding the body Wednesday.

Rangel-Zendejas said Saturday that he hasn’t ruled out robbery but is investigating other motives because few valuables were stolen. The victim’s husband, Arthur Baylis, had been in Canada when his wife was killed.

The Canadian Embassy in Mexico City did not return calls for comment.

Picturesque San Miguel has rarely been hit by drug-related violence.
