WATCH: PETA protest turns heads in downtown Vancouver

PETA held an eye-catching protest in downtown Vancouver today, hoping to get people to think twice about what they’re eating.

This morning at Granville and Georgia, passersby were surprised to see a woman, lying nearly naked on a giant plate on the pavement, drizzled with BBQ sauce. She was next to a side salad and a set of giant cutlery.

The giant plate was emblazoned with the words “Try to relate to who’s on your plate.” PETA says the point of the protest is to get people to realize that animals “killed for food are capable of feeling joy, love, pain, and fear just as humans are.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“PETA is challenging people to think about what ‘meat’ really is: the corpse of an abused animal who did not want to die,” says PETA Vice President of Communications Lisa Lange. “With all the delicious mock meats and faux dairy products available these days, there’s never been a better time to go vegan.”
