Bear sightings spark warnings in national parks

CALGARY- Parks officials are warning the public to be on alert when heading into national parks, due to a number of bear sightings.

There has been lots of activity in Kootenay National Park which is located southwest of Banff, prompting closures in the Olive Lake day use area. Warnings have also been issued in Redstreak Campground and Cobb Lake trail.

Officials are especially concerned about the number of mother bears seen with cubs in the grassy areas along the highway, and are asking drivers to be extra cautious. The animals are expected to stay in the area for a number of weeks, until the snow melts at higher elevations.
