Italian-Canadians have held this area since 1981 — Michelangelo Spensieri in Yorkview from 1981 to 1985, Claudio Polsinelli from 1985 to 1990, current Toronto councillor Giorgio Mammoliti from 1990 to 1995 and Mario Sergio since. The NDP have narrowed Sergio’s margin of victory from over 12,000 votes in 2003 to 3,500 last election.

By the numbers

Only 6.6% of people are third generation Canadians or older, the second-lowest number in the country. The median income in the 2011 was $19,572, the second-lowest in the province.
