MONTREAL – Telefilm Canada is celebrating the success of several Canadian filmmakers at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
“Collaborator,” a Canadian-U.S. co-production, took the International Federation of Film Critics’ (FIPRESCI) prize as well as best actor kudos for star David Morse.
Meanwhile, “Sunflower Hour,” from Vancouver director Aaron Houston, claimed Czech Television’s Independent Camera Award.
“Romeo Onze,” from Montreal filmmaker Ivan Grbovic, received a special mention in the ecumenical jury award.
Telefilm says an audience competition also put three Canadian titles in the fest’s Top 10: “Incendies” (no. 3), “Collaborator” (no. 4) and “Sunflower Hour” (no. 8).
The festival, which ran July 1 to 9, included a tribute to “Incendies” director Denis Villeneuve.
Israel’s “Restoration” won the top prize, known as the Crystal Globe. It comes with a $30,000 prize.
