WATCH: Aerofex demonstrates its hoverbike in 2012
TORONTO – Day in and day out, you sit in traffic, navigate potholes, road closures, or accidents. With rising gas prices, it’s looking like you’re going to have to take out a loan each month just to make a few visits to the pump. If only there was a way to fly to work…
Well, thanks to a California company, that dream is one step closer to being a reality.

Aerofex Corp. is taking orders on its new Aero-X hovercraft. The 4.5-metre long, 2.1-metre wide car weighs 365 kg and can hold two people. Its maximum speed is 72 km/h and it can fly up to 10 feet off the ground.
Though not designed for roads (yet, we hope) the rotary-engine vehicle is like something out of a Star Wars movie. Think young Anakin in (sadly) Episode I in the pod race.
The company, lead by aerospace engineer Mark DeRoche, has been developing hovercrafts for 15 years, according to its website.
The good news is you can put a down-payment on the hovercraft now: At a cost of $85,000, the company only requires a deposit of $5,000 USD, which is refundable.
